Motorola when it was under Google revealed something that they are working on Project Ara which is yet another concept of a modular smartphone sounds familiar right? you have seen this before if you have read the Get To "Know- Phone Bloks" i did last night if you didn't catch that i have a link to it down at the bottom..
But the thing is Phone Bloks didn't come from a large manufacturer, it did not come from a big company looking to actually change the game, it came from a smaller YouTube video maker, who was just looking to spread the idea about something he believed in ..
After Phone Bloks was in everyone's mind Motorola revealed that they have been working on this "Ara" concept for a modular smartphone for more than a year or so, so we are supposed to believe that these two had absolutely nothing to do with each other until last year when they got together and said .. Alright let's do this ,let's make his a thing we have the same idea let's just collaborate and make this happen and after that there is a Motorola Blog post about it, there is an updated Phone Bloks video about it.
This is a possibility that Google/ Motorola and Dave from Phone Bloks have been working together way longer than they tell us and it is possible that the Phone Bloks concept was just a marketing campaign or an experiment to see how people react to it.. It's all possible but i am just going with what they are saying..
I'll believe that they are actually collaborating on this, i'll believe for a minute that this is an amazing coincidence ..
When i first thought about Phone Bloks i talked about how that idea was essentially pretty unrealistic, it seem unreasonable, the whole concept had very few technical details at all , involved in that video it was almost a marketing campaign...
But how is Ara different from Phone Bloks?
ON the surface it's not, it's the same concept it's slightly better looking design it's more convincing rthat you would carry a phone looking like that ,but the idea is the same..
The biggest change here and the reason why it's making headlines is Google is now behind it, it is something which is lining between a huge success or a huge failure, This is according to the blogpost being worked on by Google and Motorola for over a year at that time, which means if Google's engineering power and it's financial support are putting effort in this in research and development, into making an idea like this actually happen..
If it happens to be a success than it'll be because Google an Motorola actually care about fundamentally changing the way we see and use our smartphones, and that is huge, that is bold and dangerous and very risky, but it's awesome.
For this we should consider Google Glass, Smart watches, the First iPhone, where they were the first of there form factor, they were the first to do what they do and it might not seem that modular smart phone is entirely new form factor , but they are something that's never been done before, and something that's never done before always starts off with a very expensive and very controversial way ..
So i say let;s give it a chance may be some how it becomes a reality of our daily lives ..
And even if it does fail it good that someone is trying to innovate and change the way see smart phones today..
We all Know that Google has sold Motorola to Lenovo and some of you might think what about the Project Ara you should know that Project Ara team is still with Google, and the whole team has now shfited into Google office to Mountain View, California..
Tell me what do you think about owning a phone for couple of years more that two years by changing the parts, are you into this idea?
Thanks for reading this and be sure to share it and give a plus one if you like it..
Peace...
