Get To Know- Curved Display Smartphone..

Galaxy Round and Gflex..!!

The display you are reading this on is flat your TV is flat your monitor is flat and also your phone and tablets  are flat ,and that is fine cause everyone is used to by now.. but an interesting form factor has arrived in last year 2013 ..And that is curved displays...
but what is curved a display? and why would anyone want that on there phone what is the point?...
Well taking this back to last year in January 2013 ,that's where we first saw this technology in Samsung YOUM ,the first Samsung YOUM devices featured partially curved OLED displays one with the angled portion to the side and the other at the bottom..and the goal of those devices was to only light up the curved portion using that software for notifications..
But these were prototypes are we never really saw a mass production or were sold anywhere..
Later that year in the October we saw a device where the entire display is curved namely ..Samsung Galaxy Round..

It has a 5.7inch 1080p OLED display has a Snapdragon 800 processor 3BG of RAM ,It's basically the same exact spec like the as the Galaxy Note3 but instead of having a 3200mAh battery there is a smaller 2800mAh battery...
This phones entire display is curved from side to side ..why? you may ask...it another one of Samsung's thought experiments to see how people react to it.. but they have really added some interesting software enhancements that actually take advantage of this phone unique shape..
like the accelerometer and the gyroscope so sense when the device is tilting and it provides notifications and glance able information ..plus there are other motion control for the gallery and the music app can also take advantage of you being able to rock this phone on the table. basically there is whole ton of Samsung's crazy stuff that will make use of the curved display..
but we don't have our phone on the table all the time we have it in our pockets in our hands up to our faces ..
So LG thought of that and almost immediately after Samsung released galaxy Round there was the LG Gflex
Gflex is curved from top to bottom from the center axis it has a 700mm curve radius ...
But there is a reason we haven't seen curved phones this much..  until last year .. see there is a difference between curved glass and curved display .. so phones like galaxy nexus has curved glass not the display display is underneath the glass..when you curve only the glass the viewing angles are not that good and the touch response is bad too ,but when you curve the display you start to open up new world of possible shapes and curves ...

But the question is still there why would you want a curved display phone ? well ,that's totally up to you and the manufacturers to convince you that you want a curved display phone by ads and adding different apps and things like that..and by showing what a curved display phone can do and a flat normal phone can't ..and they are going to do this so get ready,...
because there are also disadvantages of having a curved display phone..
  1. The battery life ,you can curve the display but the battery is still flat .the problem is to fit the battery in a phone.
  2. Video viewing experience can be weird watching a full screen video on a curved display..
  3. like typing when your phone is on a table while it's rocking backing and forth..
  4. Durability issue you can now put your phone in your back pocket and sit down but with a curved display you can really damage your phone by doing that..
there are also some flexible displays in the market like the LG Gflex and yes ,there is a difference between curved display and flexible display ..At the CES last year Samsung showed a lot of flexible and curved diplay and you can do that only on a display because only the display is flexible but the rest of the phone is rigid..the battery the camera ,processor ,RAM all of it are rigid..
Ultimately This is all just experimentation but,you know what else was an experiment the Galaxy Note line and you can see where it is now..and that's exactly what the Gflex and Galaxy Round are an experiment..

so what do you think about curved and flexible displays tell me in the comments section down below..
