When you hear or read the words "rooting" or "jail breaking", one question pops in the mind of any person that's not a geek is " what does it means to root an Android device?.. well i am going to give you the answer down below..
Rooting
By definition Root- Having the ability to write to the root of system partition..And once you have rooted you open a bunch of other possibilities and a ton more stuff and allow a little bit more control over the phone or tablet or any other Android device, once you have root you can get rid of all those pesky carrier installed or pre-installed apps that you don't want..and you can use some of root only apps that only work on rooted device..which gives you even more control than before..
and there are ton of great apps for only rooted device if you Google it..and these features of root only apps are the apps implemented in newer versions of Android, For example- previously you had to root to take screen shots now that's in built.. you need to root to tether to an Android device now that's built in to Android as well.
So if you want new features, customization, or to able to have more control your device you might want too root it . if you want to back up and restore app data, add themes to Android, change your boot animation, or change your entire ROM all together if you want to update your device to newer version of Android root it and you don't have to wait for carrier to roll it out..
So the Most common question after that is .. How do i root my device?
So basically to find out how to root your device is , to Google the exact model of the device you want to root followed by rooting instructions and chance are you are going to find the exact instructions you need ..
for example- if you have a Verizon Galaxy S3 and chances are you are going to find the exact set of beginner level instruction of rooting your device..
And yes rooting does void your warranty but according to me you don't own a device until you void the warranty .. And even if you do screw up if you have a device slightly newer than the original Motorola Droid,
there is a community behind that to back you up and help you fix your problems, nad you can unroot your device any time if you want..
if you want you can install Cyanogenmod on your phone at - http://www.cyanogenmod.org/ ,it's me first preference if i want the closest stock Android experience.. i have my Get To Know-Cyanogenmod link down at the bottom..
Jail Breaking
On the iOS side it's called Jail breaking as you probably know, you can jailbreak iPhones, iPads, iPods there is also a huge jailbreak community as well so if you want to jailbreak your device, it's similar to rooting but not technically the same..but you can add a whole lot of customize-able items, feature on your device that were previously not available.. for example on iOS you need to jailbreak to add wall papers now that's built-in again jailbreak does voids your warranty but if you want yo can Google the instructions ..and there are some websites that have a button to jailbreak and if you click that they do all the work for you.. so rooting or jaibreaking both are easy and you can tell ,if a guide is trustworthy by reading the comments if they are positive you have found yourself what you were looking for ..That's it if you have more questions about jail breaking or rooting you can leave it in the comments sections down below, i'll be happy to answer it ..And be sure to share it if you like it..
Peace...
